I would like to dedicate this first song to all  of you who suffer from CBS~ It is my way of saying how humbled I feel after reading about how quickly it can hit and how devastating this disorder can be, and how honored I feel to be a part of your recovery---your discovery

Wow - really good to hear that you're playing again.

Did you link it to youy phsio at all - or did they have any comments / suggestions on how to leverage your music practice?

My hands have completely recovered for guitar playing, apart from a bit of what I think is carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand, which probably comes from using a computer mouse too much. I kept practising guitar as much as I could. Initially my hands felt sort of 'glued up' but now the flexibility is as good as before. But I've also read that rest/sleep is very important for the nervous system to repair itself. And a healthy diet. I suppose a balanced approach to rest and exercise is good. A month is a very small amount of time in the slow recovery process for this sort of condition. my enduring problem has been fatigue but at a very slow speed this is still steadily improving fourteen months later. Every case of GBS is different. Online support groups have a wealth of information but people who reach 100% recovery tend not to stay on them so that type of experience is not always fully represented. Feel free to ask me any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Wishing you all the best in your recovery.

Hi Roddy, ive only had it for a month. It came on while i was on summer holiday. I left fine and came off the cruise unable to dress myself(etc), so still adjusting to the whole thing.
You?

Hi James,  How long ago did you have GBS?

Comment by JamesP on Saturday

I play piano and bass - a lot, but cant even get a single note out of either now.

I should be doing at least one gig this weekend, but no chance...

anyway, i'm convinceed that I can and w2ill play agai9n.  I intend to try and combine physio with music, and with some of the old basic physical techniques used to train classical pianists - things designed to allow free movement in arms, shoulders, wrists etc.

stretch goal is ti use this time to rebuild my technique from scratch... because thats where ill have to begin.  anyone else tried this ki8nd of appproach?

Hi dj,

Have you had Guillan Barre? I had the Miller Fisher variant of GBS. I play the guitar, in June this year. My hands have been slowed down by this. Have you experienced anything similar? If so, how long did it take you to recover, or how far have you recovered? Thanks, Roddy

I'm a mandolin player. I primarily play bluegrass and gospel music.

I was diagnosed with GBS a year ago (Aug. 10, 2013). I was wondering if there was anyone else out there like me. I will be 50 years old in a few months and when I was diagnosed with GBS I was also going through menopause. I have made great progress… Continue
